Competition: Get minted!

This year's Making a Mint competition from Planet Science and the NESTA Future Innovators Team is a mintastic opportunity. All you need are green fingers and some creative ideas...

It's an old saying: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But what if you end up with mint instead? That's what the judges of Making a Mint 2008 want to find out. On offer to 7 - 14 year old entrants is £1000 for the school or clubhouse in either Amazon or Garden vouchers.

Your mission - if you choose to accept it - is to grow your mint, then add as much value to it as possible, sell it and record the process.

The judges will be looking for a winning combination of growing success, good ideas and money making know-how, it might not be the team who make the most money who wins!

For last year's competition some 5000 packs of mint seeds were sent out to competitors. The money-making schemes that resulted included manufacturing mint lip balm and mint-scented candles, selling mint sauce and tea, inventing mint-flavoured toast and even selling autographed photos of 'Minty' from Eastenders.

Think you can top those? Find out how to sign up for this year's competition. All results must be entered by 9pm on Sunday 6th July 2008.
